Sri Oscar Fernandes Visit to Sydney

Oscar Fernandes, Minister of State for Statistics & Program Implementation
(Independent Charge), Government of India was in Sydney recently for presenting
Prof. P.C. Mahalanobis International Award (Instituted by Government of India)
for outstanding statistician from developing countries at Darling Harbour on 11
April 05. A statistician from Uganda won this award. Kum. Kavitha Bhat from
Udipi, Karnataka was awarded with Jan Tinbergen award (instituted by
International Statistical Institute in Netherlands) for Young Statistician.
Consul General of India in Sydney Sri. M. Ganapathy at his
official residence, hosted a dinner in his honour on Tuesday 12 April 05.
Prominent Indian Businessmen, Presidents of various Indian Associations, Speaker
of West Bengal Legislative Assembly, Chairman of Jammu & Kashmir Legislative
Council were at the dinner party.
Sri. Oscar Fernandes, a Kannadiga from Udipi was pleased to
see so many from Karnataka at the party. In his brief speech he appreciated the
Indian Community for their achievement in a foreign land.
